i got a letter from this organization..
i was wondering if it was legit…

I think this is scam. I didn’t find them in Better Business Bureau.

I highly believe it’s a scam. My mother says it’s a scam. I got the same letter today.
Reasons I believe it’s a scam:
1. They ask for forty-eight dollars— when I applied for financial aid before they don’t spell out the amount owed nor do they ask for money anyway.
2. The webite they list is too simple and basic, information that anyone applying for financial aid already knows.
3. When applying for financial aid before, I have never come across this company.
4. The envelope it came in has a stamp. All of the letters I’ve recieved from legit companies have printed stamps not adhesive stamps.
5. All financial aid is electronically filed, not on paper anymore.
6. I googled it and it didn’t come up!
I didn’t send any money because I showed it to my mother and she told me to not reply. She’s seen a lot of talk shows and news regarding the rise of scams like these and other kinds.
I just got the letter today, and it seemed weird to me, too. I’ve never heard of them either, and it sounds to me like they do the same thing FAFSA does.
I was in the middle of filling out this application when i suspected a possible fraud. I am listing a few higher ed institutions that have raised concerns about this in the sources including Georgetown and Lehigh. A search under various search engines using “College Financial Advisory” will yield a significant amount of additional concerns. The website listed in the solicitation was currently down as well.
College Financial Advisory is a total SCAM! Like someone mentioned, they make you pay a $ 48 “processing fee”. FAFSA does not require any fees for processing.
Also, they created the student profile number in hopes that some people would be careless enough to give up their SSN. If you go to their website, you can immediately tell that they are not a legit company. Their contact info page has office hours only from 10a-2p and a misspelled city! STAY AWAY.
