The clubs in my school are:

Aero Club
Art Club
Basketball Club
Book Club
Beta Club
Chess Club
Forensics Team
Journalism
Model UN
Robotics
Student Advisory Council
Soccer Club
Theatre Guild

And then there’s this environmental community service club that I’ll probably do.

So which clubs would help me get into a good college?
Do some clubs look better than others?

Best answer:

Answer by Charles W
Forget about school clubs. Your grammar will keep you out of any of the Ivy League colleges.

Question by ANT-a-gonistic: Med School-Research Experience and Prehealth Advisory Committee?
Do you think that having a strong background in research helps someone get into medical school or does it make it seem like they’d rather go to graduate school?

To get into med school, do you HAVE to be registered in your college’s prehealth advisory committee or is this just like a formality. I guess what I mean is if it’s necessary to actually apply to medical school.

Best answer:

Answer by Mrs. House
You have to look into the medical school you are interested in. Some med schools train M.D./Ph.D’s especially for medical research. In that case, a background in research would help. A school with no research? Probably won’t help much…they look more at clinical/volunteer experiences to make sure you know what you’re getting into. As for the prehealth advisory committee…I doubt you have to be in it…I would do it just to have something else to add to your application.

Question by Cinnamon: What else would help me get in to a great college?
I just finished my sophomore year of high school. I have taken one AP class and test (AP European History) but have not received the test scores back. I don’t play sports, but I am planning to volunteer at the library. I have a non-weighted GPA of 3.83 (weighted of 4.0). I took the PSAT both as a freshman and a sophomore. I am in Key Club and on the Principal’s Advisory Board. I am a fairly strong writer. I was chosen to be the senior editor of my Yearbook for the next two years. What else can I or should I do to make myself a worthy contestant for prestigious colleges and universities? That is, besides from earning good grades in rigorous courses and , obviously, scroing high on the ACT and/or SAT.

Best answer:

Answer by Tracey O
keep volunteering, in fact join organisations that require you to volunteer like National Honor Society or Student Council

also, speech and debate (or forensics) is rumored to be a GREAT organization to get yourself involved in when it comes to college admissions… and if your school doesnt have one (which they should), try to be involved in performing SOME kind of way. join theare – even if you can’t act, be apart of the crew, help build things or paint. but keep in mind, only do as much as you have time for… or course colleges LOVE well rounded students, you dont want to spread yourself too thin if you can’t handle it. try things out a bit, see how it goes.

and dont forget – start figuring out which teachers you want to write your recommendations. a good rec letter can make a big difference (or so i’ve heard)

Give your answer to this question below!

What I mean is what could I say to make me be chosen. I can’t say looks good on college resume. I’m trying to find the words of why I want to be chosen…like civic duty without being too cliche.

Best answer:

Answer by butterwuldmelt
This will sound cliche! but…
I’d say I have the ability to remain fairly objective over the issues which my peers feel strongly about, therefore I think I can put across what we want discussed in a coherent and reasonable manner. I don’t feel I belong to one particular clique/segment of our year so I think I would be able to represent all of us. I think I have an adult head on young shoulders and can bring the youth perspective to the table in a way that adults can relate to. I feel I have the respect and trust amongst my peers that would make me an approachable representative that the students could relate to. I want to show that young people have good ideas, i want to see some of these ideas discussed and maybe taken on board, I feel I can articulate the unspoken voice of my year. Ultimately I want to use the skills I have been given for the greater good and to the best of my ability. At the moment this opportunity provides me with a platform to do so, to the benefit of my year/peer group. I think I could improve the way students view teachers and school and keep tensions to a minimum.

Answer by Sarah
We had advisory in high school. I have no idea if it’s the same thing, but what we did was talk about people problems in high school, like drinking, bullying, how to do well in school, etc. The class was basically what its title sounded like. It will probably be the same for college since you’ll be a freshman and they may require it for everyone to take to learn how to survive in college.
